1. The StarFish Work Station

This system made it possible to an American team to optimize their working time.

a. The situation:

Theses chemists had to collect samples when their five devices was refluxing.

The installation of all the devices, the tedious management of the tubing for the cooling liquid for each condenser, the washing of the glassware between each trial, took them at least two days.

In addition, the footprint under the fume hood was at its maximum. It was complicated to collect the sample in each reaction medium and it was impossible to perform more synthesis to answer to the needs of the analytical service to have more samples.

b. The objectif :

Find a system to increase the number of trials and save room and time.

c. The solution:

The StarFish Work Station

Starfish Southern Research   Synthesis system for:

  • 5 x flasks, 5 x flask with sidearms from 5mL to 500mL,
  • Heating from RT to +260°C,
  • Use of inert gases,
  • Magnetic stirring.

Thanks to the StarFish, the chemists succeeded to increase their productivity.

Indeed, they are able now to:

  • Reduce their working time by two thanks to the user-friendly handling of the system.
  • Double the number of samples for the analytical service by the using of two little footprint systems which limits significantly the room under the fume wood.

 

2. The Carousel 6 Plus Reaction Station

This system made it possible to a Chinese team, to perform more syntheses under always the same conditions.

a. The situation:

The chemists made their syntheses with assemblies using differents sizes of round bottom flasks and several stirring hotplates.

These stirring hotplate took a huge space under the fume hood and the chemistes never arrived to have, at the same time, the same settings for temperatures nor the speeds for the stirring.

They were therefore unable to obtain reproducible results, which penalized the production.

b. The objectif:

Find a system to realize several syntheses, on different reaction volumes and always with the same conditions, on a minimum space.

c. The solution:

The Carousel 6 Pus Reaction Station

ABAChem Chine   Synthesis system for:

  • 6 x flasks, 6 x flask with sidearms from 5mL to 250 mL,
  • Heating from RT to +180°C,
  • Cooling from RT to -78°C,
  • Use of inert gases,
  • Magnetic stirring and mecanical stirring as an option.

Thanks to the Carousel 6 Plus, the chemists succeeded to increase their productivity.

Indeed, they are able now to:

  • Perform, simultaneously 6 syntheses under the same operating conditions.
  • Save a huge space under the fume hood using now three Carousel 6 Plus having each, different size of round bottom flasks.
  • Repeat their syntheses and have always reproducible results.

 

3. The Carousel 12 Plus Reaction Station

This system made it possible to an American team to perform more syntheses still under the same conditions on reaction medium < 10mL.

a. The situation:

The chemists performed a synthesis, several times using an expensive and sensitive monomer.

The heating was done with an oil bath and unfortunately, the results obtained were inconsistent because of the impossibility to be repeatable.

In addition, the fact that this synthesis could not be done several times, because of the limits of the oil bath, caused a bottleneck which penalized the production.

b. The objectif:

Find a system to to perform several syntheses on a reaction medium < 10mL, under the same conditions.

c. The solution:

The Carousel 12 Plus Reaction Station

University of Minnesota Carousel 12   Synthesis system for:

  • 12 x tubes 24 ø x 150mm,
  • Heating from RT to +220°C,
  • Cooling from RT to -78°C,
  • Use of inert gases,
  • Magnetic stirring.

Thanks to the Carousel 12 Plus, the chemists succeeded to increase their productivity.

Indeed, they are now able to:

  • Perform simultaneously 12 syntheses under the same operating conditions. They obtain reproducible results thanks to the uniformity of the parameters necessary for each reaction medium : heating, magnetic stirring, nitrogen flow…
    This uniformity also allowed them also to optimize the use of the sensitive and expensive monomer, limiting its degradation.
  • Significantly increase the library of compounds obtained from this monomer.

 

 

4. The GreenHouse Plus Reaction Station

This system made it possible to a German team to challenge the limits of the synthesis tools that theys had.

a. The situation:

The chemists used an aluminum plate, built internally, to stir and to heat up to 15 tubes of 2mL having always the same solvent.

This plate was installed on a stiring hotplate.

It was impossible for them to reflux or to work under inert atmosphere.

b. L’objectif :

Find a system to stir, to heat, to reflux and to work under inert atmospher.

c. The solution:

The GreenHouse Plus Reaction Station

GreenHouse Plus   Synthesis system for:

  • 24 x tubes 16 ø x 100mm,
  • Heating from RT to +150°C,
  • Cooling from RT à -78°C,
  • Use of inert gases,
  • Magnetic stirring.

Thanks to the GreenHouse Plus, the chemists succeeded to increase their productivity.

Indeed, they are able now to:

  • Stir, to reflux, to work under inert atmospher up to 24 samples of 1mL always under the same operating conditions.

 

 

5. The Mya 4 Reaction Station

This system made it possible to an Australian team to perform the heating and the cooling with the same system.

a. The situation:

To perform heating and cooling syntheses in different volume flasks, the chemists used either oil or water baths to heat or ice or acetone and dry baths to cool.

With the oil baths, in addition to the disadvantages associated to the the oil (messy, dangerous…), the temperatures of the reactions were not precise which had a negative impact on the yields.

With ice or dry ice, it was not much better for the yield and the chemists must to stay close to their system to add frequently ice or dry ice. They were also unable to perform cold syntheses over a long periods of time.

b. The objectif:

Find a system to:

  • Perform independent syntheses with the same device having different and limitless time.
  • Have excellent and very accurate temperature control.
  • To offer free users time to do other activities during run.

c. The solution:

The Mya 4 Reaction Station

Mya 4 UNSW Austrailie   Synthesis system for 4 independent zones:

  • Vials, tubes, flasks, flask with sidearms, vessels from 2 mL to 400 mL,
  • Heating & cooling from -30 °C to +180 °C,
  • Magnetic& mechanical stirring,
  • Use of inert gases,
  • Software – control and log results automatically.

Thanks to the Mya 4, the chemists succeeded to increase their productivity.

Indeed, they are able now to:

  • Perform up to four independent syntheses with different volumes, temperature, stirring…
